Theatre aficionados have been given the opportunity to enjoy Martha Henry's final performance in Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women, filmed live during the Stratford Festival’s 2021 season.
Henry tragically passed away just 12 days after the production closed on Oct. 9, 2021.
Her performance in Three Tall Women will be available for a limited time on CBC, CBC Gem and Stratfest@Home starting on Sunday, Oct. 16.
“To immortally capture this powerful final performance by theatre royalty was a privilege and undoubtedly one of the most emotional experiences of my career,” said Barry Avrichm, director of the screen production, in a news release issued by the Stratford Festival.
“Martha’s final transcendent performance was given in the face of her own death,” said artistic director Antoni Cimolino in the news release. “It is a potent distillation of her strength, fierce intelligence and boundless talent. Sadly we shall not look upon her like again.”
Originally staged under COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, just 3,000 audience members were afforded the opportunity to see Martha Henry in Three Tall Women live in Stratford.
