Huron-Perth students good as gold at Skills Ontario Competition

Grade 10 student from St. Michael CSS in Stratford and Grade 7/8 students from St. Mary’s School in Listowel come out on top

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board is celebrating medal winners from the Skills Ontario Competition which took place this week in Toronto.

Grade 7/8 students from St. Mary’s School in Listowel and Grade 10 student from St. Michael CSS in Stratford won gold.

The competition, held  May 1 and 2, saw students from across the province compete in various skills-based challenges. 

The student team from Listowel competed in the LEGO Mechanical Engineering category. Their project involved designing and building a monorail and they worked tirelessly to perfect their skills in preparation for the competition, the school board said in a news release.

Meanwhile, the Stratford student, Anne D., competed in the aesthetics category, winning gold in the category for the second year in a row.

The Skills Ontario Competition is an annual event that promotes skilled trades and technology careers to students.

It allows students to showcase their talents and compete against their peers in a friendly and challenging environment.
