Here for Now Theatre has announced that the company has found a permanent home for the next 15 seasons.

Here For Now Theatre, an award-winning independent professional theatre company in Stratford, is set to renovate the historic Perth County Registry Office at 24 St. Andrew Street into a Micro Black Box Theatre space.

The 1,350-sq.-ft. building, which was slated for demolition, will now be saved and reimagined.

Renovations will include a 60-seat performance space, lobby and washrooms on the main floor and a rehearsal space, green rooms/dressing rooms and storage in the basement.

Here for Now is known for its outdoor summer season of intimate storytelling. After what will be five successful summer seasons, this space will allow HFN to grow to the next level and to offer off-season productions and employment to many of the world-class artists who live here year-round.

With Here for Now’s central mandate being the development of new work, this expansion will foster more time for the playwrights and artists to fine tune before rehearsals even begin.

Artistic director Fiona Mongillo states, “This type of micro theatre venue is being embraced internationally. I have been inspired by the Bewley’s Theatre in Dublin and the Canal Cafe Theatre in the UK, and I couldn’t be more proud and excited to be adding to the already rich arts community in Stratford with this new space!”

“The County is pleased to see the revitalization of this building for a new purpose,” said Rhonda Ehgoetz, Warden of Perth County. “Here For Now Theatre have exciting plans to breathe new life into the space and we are looking forward to seeing the final result!”

Renovations are set to begin in the immediate future with a plan to have the doors open in June 2025.

Over the next year, Here For Now will be offering many ways for members of the community to be a part of this exciting venture!
