Cooper Standard, which operates in Stratford, has been certified as a living wage employer by United Way Perth-Huron.

The new Perth-Huron $20.70 living wage was calculated using local data, taking into consideration the living expenses of a weighted average of family types including a family of four, a single mother supporting a seven-year-old child and a single adult, once government transfers and deductions were taken into account, United Way explained in a news release.

“We thank Cooper Standard for joining the living wage movement,” says Ryan Erb, United Way Perth-Huron’s executive director. “Paying a living wage is an important part of building a strong local economy by ensuring workers can afford to engage fully in the life of the place they call home. We appreciate Cooper Standard’s commitment to the community and their employees.”

“At Cooper Standard, we value our employees and are committed to providing fair compensation and benefits, a safe and respectful workplace and opportunities for growth and development,” says Carey Brett, plant manager at Cooper Standard mixing plant on Erie Street in Stratford.

“Committing to and promoting a living wage will provide a great benefit to our employees and the greater community. It is our hope that other organizations will also make this commitment to their employees as one of the many ways we can make a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.”
