It’s Earth Day in Stratford and across the globe.
In honour of the day, members of the energy and environment committee worked with volunteers improving the cribwall – a retaining wall – on the north shore of Lake Victoria.
Part of an ongoing effort to increase shoreline biodiversity, they weeded out invasive plants such as thistles and coltsfoot and replaced them with native grasses such as big bluestem, according to a post on the City of Stratford’s Facebook page.
Earth Day is an annual, global event that takes place on April 22 to show support for environmental protection.
Started in 1970 after a UNESCO conference in San Francisco, next year will be the 55th anniversary of Earth Day.
