At the April Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) Board of Trustees meeting, a teacher was lauded for a recent province-wide award.

Laura Bross is a teacher at Brookside Public School in Ashfield Township, near Lake Huron. She was awarded the International Dyslexia Association of Ontario’s Literacy Leader of the Year Award.

The award recognizes the efforts of educators in Ontario who demonstrated leadership in literacy education.

Through Bross’ work leading a grassroots movement in her school and her commitment to ensuring that every learner has a right to read, she won the award over hundreds of other exceptional educators.

In a Facebook post, the International Dyslexia Association of Ontario said that Bross’ work “inspires educators to reflect on their current teaching practices and implement change to do what is necessary to fulfill the obligation to meet students’ right to read.”
