LETTER: 'If you don't have the money you can't play the game'

'When financial times are tough wouldn't it be good if someone in charge with an IQ above 60 said the city's taxpayers can't afford lights and flowers and other fluffy things in 2024'

StratfordToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Larry Baswick.

My wife and I loved the winter lights displays on the island and behind city hall and I really hate to be a Scrooge but with many families struggling to make ends meet, inflation being a factor in their lives, and council ready to send a tax bill 10 per cent higher than last year, mustn't the question be asked; "Is any politician or company executive in any jurisdiction looking seriously at the expenditure sheet?"

What is the name of the sharp tack exec. at Loblaws who thought it would be a good idea to change the 50 per cent discount on tired goods to 30 per cent? You know, the sticker needy people look for at Zehrs. What is the name of the bright light who thought people toughing it out need only cancel Disney?

Yeah, her.

When financial times are tough wouldn't it be good if someone in charge with an IQ above 60 said the city's taxpayers can't afford lights and flowers and other fluffy things in 2024?

The federal government pays more in debt interest than it does on health. Is anyone in Ottawa saying, "Holy moly!".

Is anyone on Stratford council thinking we have to learn from Ottawa's stupidity?

Are the people making these vacuum-head decisions sweating over peanut butter again in their kids' lunch box or whether to get the heated steering wheel option in their Lincoln?

No matter which level you are at, from single mom to PM and every balance sheet in between, if you don't have the money you can't play the game.

Bah humbug; sometimes you have to say "no".
