All of the good things happening at Out of the Ashes Large Animal Rescue can finally be shared in-person with the community.

It's been four years since Angie Hurst hosted their 'Deck the Stalls' event, and she is happy people can stop by for it again on Saturday.

Guests can meet the animals and hear about their back stories, and see how far they have come, Hurst said.

"We have no idea how many are coming...it could be five or 300, either way we will be ready."

Deck the Stalls started before the pandemic, but had to be stalled. The work at the animal rescue certainly didn't slow down over the ensuing years.

The rescue started a dozen years ago, when Cyrus, an ailing horse, was rescued and nursed back to a healthy life. The rescue takes in animals that can't be adopted and a large percentage have special needs. The not-for-profit's name stems from a fire that razed a barn and killed many animals.

The animals live on a property that also includes plenty of land for animals to roam.

Hurst said the majority brought in are still horses, about 40 reside at the rescue, but they take in all kinds. Currently residing at the farm are a variety of cattle,  Mediterranean Water Buffalo, smaller animals such as goats, sheep, ducks and chickens and Llamas, which "are always a big draw", Hurst said.

"Everything but a partridge in a pear tree," Hurst said of a big animal family.

The rescue has lost some animals since the last Deck the Halls open house, but they are always bringing in new family members and arrivals tripled after the onset of the pandemic. Some volunteers and a local veterinarian look after the animals.

Deck the Halls runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Out of the Ashes Large Animal Rescue is located behind Luckhart Transport at 4049 Road 135 in Sebringville.
